DDM Senior Lecturer Eddine Dahel has earned the Louis D. Liskin Award for Teaching Excellence in the Department of Defense Management, in recognition of his commitment to fostering intellectual growth and problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

"Rather than supply students with static facts, I believe that I will serve them better by teaching them how to define a problem, how to decide what they need to solve it, how to find and evaluate new information, how to recognize any methodology limitations, and how to be prepared both for change and to change," says Dr. Dahel, who teaches Operations and Logistics.

The Liskin Award honors faculty members who demonstrate outstanding dedication to students' learning and intellectual development. What makes this recognition particularly meaningful is that recipients are chosen directly by DDM students, reflecting the real impact of faculty in the classroom.

Staying current in his field is a key priority for Dr. Dahel. "As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to keep my courses current, by engaging in research and participating in conferences, workshops, and/or mentoring that can improve subject matter knowledge." His recent research on scheduling cargo flights for the Air Mobility Command, published in Western Decision Sciences Institute Proceedings, is just one example of this commitment to bringing relevant, contemporary research into the classroom.

Dr. Dahel wants students to derive life-long benefits from their time in his classroom. His goal is to help them learn how to learn, so they can continue to develop and grow throughout their careers.  He relishes seeing students rapidly master challenging concepts and complex methodologies – and he has high praise for NPS students in particular:

"NPS students are among the best graduate students I have had the pleasure to teach and advise in my academic career. They are enthusiastic, curious, and eager to learn, which is inspiring to those of us who teach them.â€

Dr. Dahel’s high regard for NPS students has been matched by their appreciation of his teaching, as demonstrated by this prestigious award.  Congratulations to Dr. Dahel on this honor!
